The public could be able to upload footage of road traffic offences they witness - as early as next year.
That's one of the recommendations in a report published by the Oireachtas Justice Committee.
The Report on an Examination of Enforcement of Road Traffic Offences says dashcam footage could be summitted by the public to an online portal.
Members of An Garda Síochána specialising in roads policing and legislation would then analyse the footage and decide if there is enough evidence to prosecute.
The report also recommends that a fine and three penalty points be issued to drivers caught parking in a cycle lane, bus lane, or on a footpath.
The establishment of a 12-month pilot programme using automatic number-plate recognition technology to detect speeding offences is also suggested.
