Cuts to the pay of members of the Northern Ireland Assembly have been described as 'tokenism'.

MLAs will see their salaries reduced by around a third as part of plans to defer an Assembly election by six weeks.

The new deadlines to form an Executive in Stormont is now the 8th of December, with the potential for a further extension to January 19th if necessary.

Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern says MLAs are doing a lot of work, even if the Assembly isn't sitting:

"They're still doing their constituency work and I suppose that's a lot of the public say, Listen, if I know they haven't been really meeting property, you know, for months now, we should be getting a callback. I understand that argument and this is to try to do with that argument, but, you know, I'd rather see your resolution, worried about what they get paid."
