Public transport will run, and schools will remain open, despite sub-zero temperatures in the week ahead.

That's the news from the National Emergency Coordination Group meeting in Dublin today.

They say they're ''confident services won't be affected'' by the cold snap - despite flight disruptions and hazardous driving conditions.

A status yellow warning has been extended until Friday while a status orange low temperature warning is in place for the country until midday tomorrow.

Speaking at the event at Agricultural House today, Minister Darragh O'Brien had this advice:

"Public transport, schools, all of that - there is no no issue in that in that regard, but we just ask people to be aware of the particularly cold temperatures that will come in now over the course of this week and to remain safe, remain warm and be careful on the roads and look in on your neighbours, particularly those who are who are vulnerable and might need assistance".
