The Taoiseach has rejected calls for an emergency budget.

The Dáil will debate a Sinn Féin motion calling for a new budget before the summer recess in a few weeks time.

The party says people are struggling now and can't wait until October for further help.

But Taoiseach Micheál Martin says the Government is sticking to its plans:

"The government faces a very delicate balancing act in protecting the economy and poorer households from higher energy and food prices, while avoiding adding to inflation through second round effects, and we do want to avoid second round effects. I've been saying that consistently from the get go, because that's what happened in the 1970s. We ended up with spiraling inflation that got worse and worse every year."
