The junior transport minister says she doesn't want to see the Defence Forces deployed to deal with security staff shortages at Dublin Airport.

It comes after government approved the measure yesterday following a request from the DAA.

Members of the army will be on standby from July 6th to August 15th.

Junior Minister, Hildegarde Naughton, says the government has to be prepared to deal with any potential shortages at the airport during the summer season:

"There could be, potentially, issues where passengers may not be able to make their flight due to staffing levels, particularly security staffing levels, and it will be remiss of us not to respond to that. I don't want to see the defense forces deployed. I want to be very clear on that, but we need to be ready in the event that something does happen."
