Inflation is at its highest level in 38 years, according to the latest figures from the Central Statistic Office.
The cost of living rose 9.1% between June last year and this year, the highest rate of increase since 1984.
The most significant increases were in transport, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels.
It comes as the ministers for finance and public expenditure have been appearing at an Oireachtas Committee.
