A business lobby group says employers should be able to ask for 'proof' to stop the 'potential abuse' of paid leave, for victims of domestic violence.

IBEC has objected to plans to introduce a specific 5 days of paid leave for those suffering or at risk of abuse in the home.

The group maintains it's because victims can already take compassionate leave, force majeure or sick leave.

According to the Irish Independent, IBEC has complained that government was 'introducing too much paid leave at once', including parental leave and sick pay.
