Householders could be asked to reduce their electricity usage during peak hours, over fears of blackouts this winter.

The utilities watchdog - the CRU - is asking energy companies to introduce ways to balance demand.

The proposed changes, which would take effect from the 1st of October, include peak rate tariffs to reduce demand at certain times, such as between 5pm and 7pm.
