Hotels are hitting out at the low level of supports for their industry announced by the Government yesterday.

The Irish Hotels Federation says they fall far short of what's urgently needed given the scale of the crisis facing hotels.

It's calling on the state to restore the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme to November levels.

Irish Hotels Federation President, Elaina Fitzgerald-Kane says the new restrictions won't help the industry:

"I suppose over the last while, we've seen a tsunami of events like cancellations. And yesterday's announcement then was further hammer blow. And I suppose I appreciate and understand it's part of general effort to safeguard public health measures. It's very tough when you're looking on in an industry that, you know, in normal times December would sustain the early months of the year but, right now, we have acute cancellations. The outlook is very poor in terms of occupancy."
