The highest temperature of the year in Ireland has been recorded in Dublin's Phoenix Park today.

At 30.3 degrees, it is a record for July for the park, and over 10 degrees above normal.

A yellow high temperature warning for the entire country remains in place until midnight.

Temperatures could hit 32 degrees today.

Head of Forecasting at Met Éireann, Evelyn Cusack, says temperatures will return to more normal levels after tomorrow:

"Its a brief spell and the peak of the hot spell is today actually, but then tomorrow will be quite warm and humid. Some showers are breaking out at risk with some tundra showers and really, look I'm not saying it's going to be really dark for the rest of the weekend over next weekend, but this hot spell will have ceased by tomorrow."
