Plans to get more members of minority groups into college will be announced by the Higher Education Minister this afternoon.

Simon Harris will put forward the fourth National Access Plan that will provide an additional 35 million to allow more access to further education.

The plan will also focus on improving graduation and employment rates among underrepresented groups, instead of simply focusing on the numbers progressing to college.

A member of the Traveller community, Megan Berry, says progression to higher education will only happen with the right supports in place.

"I think it's so important to have the opportunity to access higher education. Travellers and Roma are very ambitious, and have plenty of potential to be able to progress, but that progression will only happen with the proper supports in place.

"There needs to be better conditions for Travellers in terms of access and inclusion across the whole of the education system from as early as higher education."
