It comes as hospitals are under increasing pressure from Covid and flu outbreaks.
Minister Eamon Ryan said the Government will discuss a return to mask wearing if needed:
"We'd have to meet on that and obviously listen to what the Chief Medical Officer's advice is. The mechanisms we established during Covid served us well so we'll have to reconvene- the Department of the Taoiseach obviously will lead on that."
