A global health expert is advising people not to compare Monkeypox to Covid.
It comes as 21 cases of the virus have been identified in the UK, with cases confirmed in 11 European countries so far.
Monkeypox is transmitted through touch and causes flu-like symptoms and painful blisters to appear on the skin.
Senior Research Fellow in Global Health Dr Michael Head does not believe the virus poses a threat to wider society:
"It's not covid, infectious diseases do behave very differently. So, the outbreak, it's important that we get it under control, but we're not likely to see anything on the scale of what we've seen with COVID-19 these last two years."
