Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch will find out today if he has been found guilty of murder.

The 60-year-old is accused of shooting an associate of the Kinahan cartel at a boxing event at the Regency Hotel in Dublin seven years ago.

It has been almost twelve weeks since Gerry Hutch’s 52-day murder trial ended.

The three judges of the non-jury court reserved their judgement until today. Unlike a jury trial, they’ll have to outline in great detail how they arrived at their decision.

Jonathan Dowdall’s testimony will have featured heavily in their deliberations. The State-turned witness claims Gerry Hutch confessed to him that he shot David Byrne.

He also claims he was there when a key card to a room at the Regency Hotel was handed over to Mr Hutch. The room was later used by a member of the hit team.

Mr Hutch’s barrister accused him of being a liar. He described him as a “master manipulator” who has something to gain from telling lies about his client.

Two other men accused of helping the hit team make a getaway will also learn their fates today.
