Farmers say they hope further protests outside Dunnes Stores branches over the sale of cheap produce won't be necessary.

The Irish Farmers Association says it held 'constructive' talks with management yesterday, with the retailer stating it'll respond to farmers proposals shortly.

Tractor blockades were held outside Dunnes branches in Cork and Monaghan recently to encourage them to negotiate.

IFA President, Tim Cullinan, hopes a resolution can be found.

"Hopefully we can have proper discussions and dialogue with the view to there will be a proposal on the table that is going to help alleviate the serious situation that our farmer find ourselves in at the current time."
