Doctors slam HSE over payment delays

Non-Consultant Doctors are calling on managers in the HSE to get their act together over payment procedures.

They say many junior doctors, who have to move around the country as part of their training, can't get paid for many months as each time they re-locate, they have to re-register which causes delays in payments.

In some cases, doctors don't get pay for hours worked and are forced to beg the HSE for the money they are entitled to.

Dr. John Cannon, who represents Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors, says the appalling situation is forcing many to emigrate:

"It is just another example of the HSE making life unnecessarily hard for junior doctors, if we were paid correctly, and if we were paid the hours which we do that would help the doctor retention. So yes, it's another reason why doctors finally say look, I've had enough of the HSE and Ireland, I can't take it anymore. I'm going to go and see if there's a better health system out there and ultimately, they find a better health system in Canada or even Australia, and unfortunately, they don't come back."
