CSO: Sharp Rise In Number Of Thefts Last Year

There was a sharp rise in the number of thefts last year.

CSO figures show an increase of 41 per cent in the number of incidents compared to 2021.

It was the highest rate rise of any crime category.

There were almost 66,000 incidents of thefts recorded last year.

That's a rise of 41 per cent on 2021, according to figures released from the CSO.

There was a 30 per cent increase in homicide and related offences, while robberies extortion and hijacking offences are up 19 per cent.

Threats to murder, assaults and harassments saw a 17 per cent rise, while there was a 10 per cent increase in burglary and related offences.

There was some areas of improvement, with fraud crime down a third over the year.
