Cork District Court has heard that DPP directions are awaited by Gardaí investigating an incident in the city where a man died two days after he was allegedly attacked.

32 year old Jason Butler died at Cork University Hospital on the 16th of June last.

29 year old Aaron Babbington of Churchfield Avenue in the city appeared before Cork District Court on the 16th of June charged with assault causing harm to Jason Butler.

Jason Butler, who was originally from Midleton, died just hours after the hearing.

Today in court, Sgt Pat Lyons said that an investigation file is being prepared and requested that Aaron Babbington be remanded in custody to allow for the compiling of the file and for DPP directions in the case.

Defence solicitor Emma Leahy said her client planned to make a bail application in the High Court.

Judge Treasa Kelly remanded Babbington in custody until August 16th.

The court also heard that it is unlikely that the file and DPP directions will be received by that date.
