Mick Barry TD has said this morning that the country is "crying out" for emergency budget measures to lift the burden of the cost of living crisis, and called on people to pay close attention to tonight's vote in the Dáil surrounding the issue.

The vote will be on a proposal from Sinn Féin which includes a €1.3 billion package of emergency measures like social welfare increases, increasing the minimum wage and cash payments for low and middle income earners.

The Cork North Central deputy commented on the issue this morning:

"I think that people who are being hit hard and want to see action on the cost of living crisis need to pay attention to this Dáil vote. The Government want to delay action for nearly four months and their position is being put to a vote tonight. People will want to know the name of every TD who votes to delay action and every TD who votes for action now."
