Clubs are not strict enough when it comes to attacks at matches, and stronger penalties need to be introduced

That's the view of former GAA President Seán Kelly, who says a 'no-tolerance' approach needs to be taken at all levels.

On Saturday a man allegedly grabbed a child by the throat at an under nine hurling blitz in Thurles, and a Garda investigation has been launched.

Ireland South MEP Seán Kelly says parents need seriously consider their actions in these sorts of incidents.

"Each club needs to establish its own code of conduct, and get that message across to players, to mentors, but above all else to parents of young kids.

"Sometimes the parents haven't been involved themselves before, and obviously everyone looks at their own little Johnny as the best in the world and wants the best for them, but that doesn't mean they can go around abusing and shouting at referees or players and so forth."
