An animal rights charity is urging people to not buy dogs from puppy farms.
The DSPCA has renewed its 'Adopt Don’t Shop' campaign after two 11-week-old puppies were surrendered to its services.
A family brought the two Basset Hounds to the animal shelter yesterday just days after buying them from a breeder.
Director of operations with the DSPCA, Suzanne McGovern, says reputable breeders make sure their puppies are going to a suitable home.
"If they prevent you from going to see the mum and dad of the puppies, that's a serious red flag.
"If they don't allow you to go to their premises, or make excuses on the way for you not to visit the premises, if they don't ask you about your set up or your home environment they don't seem to care then about what kind of home the puppies are going to, and are just purely interested in profit."
