The former RTE journalist first noticed symptoms on St Patrick's Day this year.

The 73 year old says his mobility hasn't been affected - but his speech has been.

Charlie Bird says it's been a difficult diagnosis to take:

"... yes I'm scared. Over the last period I've cried sometimes. But listen, everybody goes through a difficult period. But the the one positive thing is that I've had amazing support from my mates, colleagues and they now have carried me."
