Private home care providers are urging the government to clarify if they are entitled to the pandemic bonus payment, of €1,000.

All healthcare staff who worked in situations that exposed them to the virus will be given the bonus announced by the Minister for Health.

However, those working in private hospitals won't get the payment - nor will other frontline workers such as Gardai and teachers.

Joseph Musgrave, CEO, of Home and Community Care Ireland said they are not clear yet on what the government plans are.

"We were in communication with the Department of Health seeking pretty urgent clarification from Minister Donnelly, Minister Butler or their officials as to who is eligible for this bonus.

"We were told that the guidelines were being written up and they would be available soon, but they have not yet been made available to us, so we don't know yet."
