Apple will be forced to change the connector on iPhones as politicians have agreed to a common charger for all devices.

The European Commission has announced all small and medium devices will use USB type C chargers from 2024.

The commission says it will make life easier for consumers and save them money.

Tech correspondent Jess Kelly says it's not yet known when Apple will get on board:

"The big outlier in all of this at this moment in time is Apple. Apple still use its own lightning port charger cables on their iPhones. We've seen the move to USBC on iPad so it's not going to be that dramatic a shift, but it will be interesting to see when Apple launches the new iPhone this autumn, whether or not they will jump the gun and have the USBC port or if they will use that full time up until autumn 2024 to make the change."
