18,000 cases of Monkeypox reported worldwide

18,000 cases of monkeypox have been detected worldwide, with 85 in Ireland.

A vaccine is available for the most high risk groups however supply is low so it is being targeted.

The advice for anyone with symptoms is to not have intimate contact with others.

Infectious disease expert Eoghan de Barra says if you need the vaccine you should consider getting one:

"Most of the transmission so far is from close contact, and much of that from close, intimate or sexual contact. So in most Western Europe and indeed in the US, most of the cases have been in carrying gay or bisexual men who have sex with men."
