It's 100 years since the Irish Free State was established.

The 1922 Constitution was signed in London 100 years ago today, one year after the Anglo-Irish Treaty was agreed.

Ireland would be officially known as the Irish Free State, until the new constitution was introduced in 1937.

Editor of History Ireland, Tommy Graham, says there was a clever 'as Gaeilge' translation of the term 'Irish Free State'.
