A man accused of sending social media messages threatening that the Russian embassy in Dublin would be burned down, has been allowed an additional six weeks to consider his plea.

53-year-old Brian Murphy, of The Heights, Newcastle Manor, Newcastle in Dublin, appeared before the Dublin District Court today.

He was charged with four counts of sending threatening or grossly offensive communications via Facebook with intent to cause harm to the staff of the Russian embassy in Rathgar, in March.

However, counsel for the defence said they'd just received disclosure of prosecution evidence, and needed time to go through it with the accused.

Judge Bryan Smyth granted an adjournment, and ordered Mr Murphy to appear in court again in January to enter a plea, or have a trial date set if he contests the charges.
