Jonathan Dowdall claims Gerry Hutch was 'paranoid' and 'in a panic' when he met him a few days after the shooting at the Regency Hotel in 2016.

The former Sinn Féin councillor was giving evidence against Mr Hutch, who is on trial for the murder of David Byrne.

Gerry Hutch denies his murder.

Jonathan Dowdall told the judges that Gerry Hutch contacted him a few days after David Byrne was shot dead at the Regency Hotel.

He said he agreed to meet him in a public park in Whitehall in Dublin.

During that meeting, he claimed Gerry was 'in a panic' about a photo of two of the gunmen that appeared in the Sunday World.

He said he was asked to set up a meeting with his Republican contacts. When asked why Gerry wanted to meet them, Dowdall said it was to bring a stop to the feud.

While in the park that morning, he claimed Gerry told him he was one of two men who shot Mr Byrne.

Gerry Hutch denies his murder.

When the trial resumes tomorrow, Dowdall will be asked about a conversation he had with the accused as they drove to and from a meeting in Northern Ireland a few weeks after the shooting.

Gerry Hutch denies his murder.
