Armed police who surrounded the home of relatives of the shooting suspect in Maine have left - without indicating if anyone's been taken into custody.

They were executing several search warrants, calling for anyone inside to surrender.

Police say the suspect is armed and dangerous - schools in the area are to be closed for another day.

Officers are looking for US Army reservist Robert Card after 18 people were killed at a restaurant and a bowling alley in Lewiston on Wednesday night.

Melissa Homes lives nearby:

"I left my house to go pick up my daughter from Cheering, which was about 500 yards to the left of that building. It hits in the pit of your stomach. It really shows the gravity of what's going on".
