Almost 16,000 people are now known to have died following earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

The World Health Organization fears many survivors could lose their lives without shelter, water, fuel or electricity.

Rescuers are continuing their painstaking work but it's feared the people still trapped under the rubble will die.

Meanwhile the Turkish community in Cork are continuing their efforts to collect as much aid as possible for people affected by the earthquake:

Evren Ertugrul who runs Nosta Restaurant in the city centre outlines what is being collected in Cork.

"Winter clothing, unused unworn winter clothing is mainly what we need Jackets, hats, gloves, scarves, thermal clothing, coats, baby clothing.

"We need baby formula, nappies, torches, boots, and most importantly tents. People need shelter, and tents are the most important need over there at the moment.

"People here are being so generous."
