Two men have been charged in connection with the death of a 48 year old who was attending a stag party in Athlone over the weekend.

The pair were brought before a special late night sitting of Mullingar District Court.

48 year old Paul 'Babs' Connolly from Edenderry in Co. Offaly was at a stag party in Athlone when he was assaulted on Church Street in the town in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Two large data centres in Dublin have been given the go-ahead, despite objections from environmental groups.

Amazon have been granted planning permission by Dublin City Council for the construction of the buildings in Clonshaugh Business and Technology Park.
