"The next Chernobyl - will be Chernobyl."

That's the fear of Adi Roche of Chernobyl Children International who says military activity in the Chernobyl Nuclear Exclusion Zone in Ukraine is re-releasing radioactivity, trapped in the soil, back into the atmosphere.

This week marks the 36th Anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster - the worst in history.

Speaking to RedFM News, Adi Roche says the consequences of nuclear disasters last for many generations:

"Chernobyl was forever,  is forever. And the impact of that single, shocking, nuclear accident, it cannot be undone; but that footprint of radioactivity is embedded across the genepool for the last three generations born since 1986, and that will remain there. And hence my concern that the next Chernobyl will be Chernobyl itself because of the troop activity in this highly radioactive and dangerous environment: The Chernobyl Nuclear Exclusion Zone".
