The Tánaiste has described Israel's attack on a refugee camp in Rafah as 'barbaric'.

Palestinian medics say 35 people died and intense fires burned through tents, where those who've been displaced are sheltering.

The Israeli military says it's reviewing an airstrike which it claims targeted a Hamas compound and killed two commanders.

Speaking in Brussels, Tánaiste Michael Martin says there have been plenty of warnings about the consequences of military operations in the southern Gazan city:

"All the UN agencies and humanitarian groups that I met predicted that any military operation in Rafah would have dire consequences for the population in Gaza. And that is exactly what is happening right now. This is on top of the hunger, on top of the starvation, the refusal to allow aid in insufficient volumes. What we witnessed last night is barbaric".
