The Irish Government, along with 11 other countries have condemned an Israeli plan to build 3,000 settlements on the West Bank.

The US Government also said in recent days that it is opposed to the plan, which has been put out to tender for homes for Israeli settlers to be built on Palestinian territory.
This is the first move of its nature since Prime Minister Naftali Bennett succeeded Benjamin Netanyahu in June of this year.
The West Bank territory which is set to be built on, is territory that Palestinians had hoped would form part of a future Palestinian state.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is calling for Israelis and Palestinians to improve cooperation and reduce tensions in the region.
