Civilian areas have been attacked by Russian forces in the western Ukranian city of Lviv for the first time.
Until now, it had been regarded as a safe haven for people fleeing the fighting further East.
Meanwhile the Kremlin has responded to comments by Joe Biden which declared Vladimir Putin "cannot remain in power" - saying it's not up to him.
Speaking in Poland, the US President directly addressed the Russian people - drawing comparisons with World War Two.
Robert Pszczel, a former Nato official, says he thinks the remarks will cut through:
"Even with the censorship in Russia, I think, you know, various elements of the speech will get through to the Russian people. And that is perhaps the most important in my view. As I mentioned in this powerful speech"
