Sarsfields begin their 2022 Co-op Superstores Premier Senior Hurling Championship against Blackrock on Saturday in group C.

Sars boss Barry Myers has been speaking to RedFM Sport and said:

"It's a very tough group. Probably the toughest group in the draw. For Blackrock and the Barr's and Charleville, they were all in the same group last year. So it's an extremely tough group. Losing the first match puts teams under desperate pressure in a tough group. So you know, I think both teams will be going flat out to get the win the first match."

When asked about preparations Myers said he was happy with them however, he lamented the loss of the experienced Craig Leahy:

"We're just down one of our best players, Craig Leahy. He had an unfortunate accident where he fractured his leg. So he won't be available to us. Craig is a leader on the team for a long number of years in the dressing room, he has four county medals won. And to be honest about it, if Sars were asked to walk in the opening ceremony of the Olympics, Craig Leahy would be the man carrying the flag because he sets the standards for everyone."

Sars vs the Rockies is one of many huge games in the opening weekend of the PSHC and to stay up to date tune into the Big Red Bench on Cork's RedFM Saturday and Sunday from 6pm. You can hear this interview with Barry Myers in full on Saturday evening along with more club coverage.
