Younger people are less likely to get vaccinated against Covid 19 than the rest of the population.

A new Ipsos MRBI survey for the Irish Pharmaceutical Healthcare Association shows vaccine hesitancy is at 13% among 18 to 34 year olds.

8% of them say they would refuse a jab and 5% are unsure.

IPHA spokesperson Bernard Mallee says vaccination is helping despite young people's hesitancy.

"Vaccination in the community rate is very high, in fact it's probably the highest in Europe.

"Vaccination is a difference, it's reducing serious illness, hospitalisations and deaths.

"Even though hesitancy is much more prevalent in younger people than the overall population, Ireland's vaccination rate is very strong."
