The Department of Education is advising schools that windows do not need to be wide open during cold and windy weather

Many teachers have highlighted the low temperatures students are being expected to learn in, on social media today
It's understood at least one school in Dublin sent students home due to the cold weather.

Parent Paula Alves, who lives in Kilkenny, says her 11 year old son can't focus in school because he's too cold:

"How can you work? How can you focus? How can you learn? How do you develop your knowledge if you don't have comfort? In school his hands are cold. How can he pay attention to the teacher? How can they feel focused to learn if they are not comfortable? This is the basic right of a child in a civilised country."
