Micheál Martin was speaking in the city this afternoon after NPHET said they would be examining the issue of mandatory Covid vaccines.

Measures are already in place to ensure healthcare workers who refuse a vaccine are not directly interacting with patients.

Speaking to RedFM News, Taoiseach Micheál Martin says Ireland has one of the highest levels of vaccination in Europe:

"We've done extraordinarily well as a country in terms of a 94% vaccination rate of the first and second dose and even 63% of the booster. We're top of the union league table in terms of the booster campaign. And I think that speaks volumes for informing the public about the benefits of vaccination and also the robust debate that has taken place with strong medical and public health contributions, not just those in officialdom, but those in the academic world and those involved in the medicine world who have been very, very clear about the value of vaccination."
