Updated advice is expected from the Chief Medical Officer today for Cabinet to consider tomorrow.

The guidance may include a reduced isolation period for asymptomatic close contacts while there is extreme pressure on the healthcare system and other parts of society.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar says it's an idea he supports

"We are expecting advice from the CMO today and Government will consider that tomorrow morning at Cabinet. We anticipate that it will involve reducing some of the rules around close contacts -  I don't have any details of that yet, I  haven't seen the letter and I haven't seen the advice -   but that is what is anticipated and I support that and I have been calling for that for some time."
