Government officials will meet the hospitality sector today about their lack of compliance with Covid rules.

The Department of the Taoiseach sought the meeting on Friday, after new ESRI data was released.

It found 34% of customers in restaurants aren't having their Covid certs checked - and 37%  in pubs.

But Adrian Cummins, from the Restaurants Association, disputes that.

"Our evidence on the ground, face to face with business that we know and that we've gone into that the compliance is far higher than what the ESRI is saying.

"This was an online survey. This was not a qualitative face to face live inspection of a business.

"The people that will give you the exact results are the business."
