The Cabinet Sub-Committee on Covid-19 will meet this afternoon to finalise the timeline for easing all restrictions.

The Government is due to publish the road map tomorrow.

Kacey O'Riordan reports for RedFM News:

"There was broad agreement among sub-committee members about the easing of restrictions when they met on Friday.

They adjourned until today where they will nail down specific dates, which are expected to span over September and October.

Infectious Disease Specialist at the Royal College of Surgeons, Professor Sam McConkey, thinks the timing is right:

"This isn't a an initiative that we can switch on overnight. It is going to take a period of anywhere between three to six months to see case numbers coming back, and workers getting out properly."

"The Taoiseach, Tánaiste and Arts Minister met earlier with representatives from the live events sector to discuss its reopening, capacity at future events and the potential use of Covid-19 certificates.

Following the meeting, the Events Industry Alliance has criticised the Government for failing to provide them with a reopening date for full capacity events as requested.

While the roadmap will see some restrictions such as those around public transport ease immediately, it's expected major changes won't happen until later in September."
