A World Cup Memorabilia Exhibition is to visit Cork for the first time this weekend.

The 'Chasing the Ball' exhibition aims to connect the Italian and Irish passion for football and opens in Cork this Sunday.

Visitors will get the opportunity to see a display of football stickers from Irish and Italian football teams from 1990, 1994 and 2002 ahead of this years World Cup. There will also be an area dedicated to players such as Roy Keane and Robert Baggio.

The exhibition is free of charge and opens at St. Peter's this Sunday at 4pm, and will run until December 7th.

Director of the Italian Institute of Culture in Dublin, Marco Gioacchini, said they are very excited to be able to bring this unique exhibition to Cork:

"As the Football World Cup 2022 is approaching, we thought it would be a great opportunity to celebrate Irish-Italian friendship by a common exhibition featuring both countries at the World Cup. We focused on Ireland reaching the final leg as well as when the two teams played together. Italia '90 is especially full of souvenirs for both countries so the Italian Institute of Culture asked the Museo della Figurina to create a new exhibition focusing on that period of time and those national teams. It is a brand new exhibition especially conceived for Ireland and entirely funded by the Italian Institute of Culture in Dublin."
