Motorists and pedestrians are being urged to take care this morning with sub-zero temperatures being reported across the city and county.
Temperatures as low as -5 have been reported in parts of Cork, with widespread frost and black ice in parts.
A status yellow low temperature and ice warning remains in place for 10 counties across the country this morning.
Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather says frost is widespread.
"it's a very cold morning this morning, with temperatures down to as low as -3 in many areas.
"Frost and icy patches, and people will want to allow a little extra time this morning to defrost cars.
"It will be coldest int he counties under a yellow weather warning, but all all areas will see a risk of frost this morning, with coldest temperatures in the midlands and the east."
