Met Éireann has downgraded the weather advisory affecting Cork to a Yellow Weather warning.
Forecasters say listeners can expected thundery downpours of rain from this afternoon along with blustery winds.
The weather warning is in operation until midnight tonight and it is expected to lead to surface water and hazardous driving conditions across the city and county.
Last night's weather led to a number of electrical storms across Cork, particularly in West Cork, and some home and business owners were knocked off the power grid for a time last night and this morning.
The City and County Council's emergency response team remain on standby to deal with any fall out from the weather such as flooding, fallen trees or debris on roads.
Gel and Sandbags are available to the public and businesses at Tramore Valley Park Civic Amenity site up to 5pm today.
Speaking to RedFM News, Paul Downes from Met Éireann says about 20mm of rain is expected to fall across Cork:
"We will still expect some very heavy rainfall later this afternoon and this evening as bands of tundra rain pushing from the South across Cork and up further north over the country. This afternoon and this evening, we would expect possibly another 20 millimeters in places. Not quite as much as we were expecting, but last night's rain, we were expecting a bit more there. That's why it was downgraded to yellow today."
