Uisce Eireann says it accepts that the water quality in Cork City is not meeting the standards that customers have come to expect
It comes after the City Council backed calls for the abolition of the utility over it's failure to resolve the brown water saga
Householders say they have been forced to replace appliances and buy bottled water to drink as they don't trust the water coming from their taps
Uisce Eireann initially blamed a chemical treatment regime and more recently blamed a change in the pumping regime for dislodging deposits in old pipes
Brian O’Leary of Uisce Éireann told RedFM News that they are aware of the problem and are working hard to resolve the issues
"I would like to acknowledge that the water services in Cork city are not currently meeting the standards that customers rightly expect. We remain absolutely committed to carrying out all necessary work required to reduce instances of discolouration across the city and we are continuing with works to proactively flush the network in targeted areas across the city. I would also like to reassure customers that the water is safe to drink, once it is running clear"
