High Covid-19 infection levels are going to put pressure on our hospitals but won't be as overwhelming as last January's surge.
That's according to a leading epidemiologist after the highest infection rate in one day was recorded yesterday.
2,966 more people have tested positive.
Professor Ivan Perry from UCC, says the success of the vaccination campaign should help protect the health system:
"We won't see the exponential growth of hospital and ICU admissions test the desperate desperately to be solid in January because of of course the vaccines have planted the link between case numbers and admissions. We will certainly see increasing pressure on our health system the next few weeks."
