Two Cork hospitals saw ambulance turnaround times rise to well over an hour last September.

Mercy University Hospital and Cork University Hospital both saw the time it took ambulances to get back on the road after bringing a patient to hospital lengthen significantly in the first 9 months of 2021.

Adrian Harmon has more for RedFM News:

"The Echo is reporting today that details obtained under the Freedom of Information Act show that the average Ambulance turnaround time has increased nationally from 44 minutes last January to 54 minutes last September.

However, two Cork hospitals experienced delays well above this figure.

The Mercy University Hospital saw average September turnaround times of 1 hour and 25 minutes, and Cork University Hospital experienced average September turnaround times of 1 hour and 22 minutes.

An ambulance's turnaround time is the amount of time it takes between arriving at the hospital and the point when the ambulance can accept another call.

Bucking the national trend, the average turnaround time in Bantry General Hospital decreased to 43 minutes by last September.
