Tributes are being paid to eight-year-old André Ladeiro who died after he was hit by a car while cycling in Carrigaline.

André was with one of his parents and his younger brother when he was hit by a car at the Ballinrea roundabout on the Cork Road at approximately 9.20am on Saturday, August 12th.

He was taken to Cork University Hospital and then transferred to Temple Street Children's Hospital where he passed away on Wednesday evening.

Local Councillor Jack White said the community is still in shock.

“It's been an awful few days, people were thinking about him constantly since they heard about the accident on Saturday,” he said.

“To get the news he passed away was devastating.”

Cllr White said the whole community is thinking of André’s parents and younger brother.

“They're a beautiful Portuguese family who have been living in Carrigaline for many years,” he said.

André attended Owenabue Educate Together National School since it opened in September 2020 and the school said they're shocked and devastated by the loss of the second-class pupil.
