The allocation of ten million for the Midleton to Youghal Greenway has been hailed as a major boost to the Cork area.

It's part of the overall allocation of €63.5 million in funding for greenways in 2021.

It's hoped the success of the Waterford Greenway and the social and economic boost it has brought for the area can be replicated here in Cork.

Speaking to RedFM News Cork TD Sean Sherlock says he's hopeful that further funding will come in the future for other areas in Cork:

"I think it's vital for tourism interests in the East Cork area that we have Greenways of this nature," he said.

"We hope to see further funding coming down the line for proposals from Mallow to Fermoy for instance."
